Logo stories

Brands are everywhere, but no matter how big the brand is, it’s the logos that are etched in memory. Although they may sometimes seem rather simple, the logo is – in most cases – the most important branding and identity element a company has.

Let’s take, for example, the Apple logo. Put that logo on anything (a pen, a mug etc.) and you will exponentially increase its value.

There are some logos you are likely to see every day and recognise them in the blink of an eye. But who created them? Did they even dream at the popularity they eventually gained?

Here are the stories of some of the most popular logos:

Although an apple is… well, just a fruit, it’s symbolism significance in science in technology is huge. First of all, there’s Newton’s apple, that famous fruit that lead to the gravity discovery. Then there’s Alan Turing’s poisoned apple. Turing was the father of the computer and tragically took his own life. Apple’s logo is a tribute for both of them.

Google-Logo

Did you know the first draft of Google was known as BackRub? They came up with the name “Google” by playing with the word “googol”, which is a mathematical term for the number represented by 1 followed by 100 zeros. Some say it was a spelling mistake. If so, it might just be the most famous one. The official logo was created by Ruth Kedar.

McDonalds-300x183

Everyone recognises the yellow “M” in the McDonald’s logo. This famous logo was created by Jim Schindler in 1962. Initially, the two yellow arches were separated and later on they were put together to form the perfect “M”. It is said that this logo was specially designed to mark the part in American Cultural Imperialism.
