The idea that Facebook is trying to become relevant in the video content area is not news and they have been pushing videos uploaded on the platform for quite a while now, aiming to rival YouTube.
The new embeddable player, announced recently at F8, is clearly a bold step in this direction. However, during the event, live streaming was not one of the discussion topics. “It’s something we’re thinking about,” said a Facebook spokesperson, when asked by Mashable.

With the decreased reach though, we can understand why this feature is not among the network’s top priorities. “Just 12% of Facebook friends will see your post in the next 24 hours,” said Meerkat CEO Ben Rubin. And he has a good point.
Meanwhile, video content on Facebook works great and the new embed function is a nice piece of added functionality. The reach is relatively good as it is now and with this new embed possibility, it can only go higher.
For live streaming, the only solution is to keep working with third party solutions.
